Yarn & Fabric Sourcing

Yarn & fabric sourcing is the foundation of quality apparel manufacturing, learn how we do it.

Yarn & fabric sourcing is the foundation of quality apparel manufacturing. While we have strong capabilities in Knitting & Dyeing, allowing us to make the fabrics leading to better control over quality and production times, we also source a lot of high-end & rare fabrics as per our customer's needs. Yarn on the other hand is sourced from vendors & mills, with whom we have decades of trust & experience. The selection of yarn determines the fabric's feel, durability, and overall quality. At Plakads Apparel, we prioritize sourcing high-quality yarn to ensure our products meet the highest standards.

Our Yarn Sourcing Capabilities

At Plakads Apparel, we specialize in sourcing high-quality yarns to create premium apparel. While we can source on an order basis, we also keep select yarns in stock, allowing us exceptional control over lead times. Below is a non-exhaustive list of yarns that we keep in stock or yarn that we frequently procure and use:

  • 24s Count  Pure Cotton Yarn: This is high-quality, combed, compact & ring-spun yarn. This is our primary yarn, and is kept with us in large quantities and is used to make a wide variety of fabrics.
  • 40s Count Pure Cotton Yarn: Available in quantities, ideal for finer fabrics like cotton interlock, this is also high-quality combed & compact yarn.
  • 20s Count Recycled Cotton Yarn: Also stocked in smaller quantities, supporting sustainable practices and used in Fleece Production, this has seasonable availability as this is used exclusively in high GSM winter wear only.
  • Tencel: Rayon Fabrics either certified or generic are also available in a variety of GSM; some of the fabrics are kept in our warehouses also, for samples and small orders.
  • Bamboo Blends: Fabrics such as Bamboo-Cotton or Bamboo-Lycra either in French Terry or Single Jersey are also available with us.
  • Lycra Yarns: Used to make Ribs, Cotton-Lycra Blends & more.
  • Supima Cotton & Imported Cotton: We can procure Supima, Pima, Gize & Australian Cotton on an order basis alongside proper documentation and certification.
  • Organic Yarn: GOTs Certified Organic Yarn is also available for use, with proper documentation.

Our Capacity and Expertise

Our yarn sourcing is predominantly from Indian mills, ensuring the quality and reliability of Indian cotton. We do not purchase carded yarn or mixed qualities, only certified combed yarns. We occasionally test our yarns at select labs to ensure they meet our stringent quality standards.

Managing logistics efficiently, we maintain a stock of popular yarns to reduce lead times drastically. Cotton and recycled yarns typically take 2-3 weeks to arrive, while special yarns may take 3-5 weeks. This stock management allows us to meet urgent demands without compromising on quality.

Our typical minimum order quantities (MOQs) can be as low as 100 KGs due to our excellent relationships with agents, mills, and vendors, although larger quantities of 15-16 tonnes are advisable for domestic sourcing.

We ensure our yarn suppliers hold necessary certifications such as Oeko-Tex and GOTS. We can arrange for transactional certificates if required, guaranteeing the yarn's credibility and sustainability.

Contribution to Final Product Quality

The quality of yarn significantly impacts the final product. Using high-quality combed yarn ensures a smooth finish and durability, essential for premium garments. Inferior yarns can lead to a poor finish, regardless of excellent stitching or dyeing. Our commitment to sourcing transparent, high-quality yarn underscores our dedication to producing superior garments.
