Difference Between Knit and Woven Fabrics

Knit Fabrics are made by interlocking loops of yarn, resulting in a flexible and stretchy fabric. They are soft, stretchy, and comfortable, making them ideal for garments like T-shirts, polos, and activewear. Knit fabrics are commonly used for casual and activewear due to their flexibility and comfort. We manufacture knit fabrics only. 

Woven Fabrics are created by interlacing two sets of yarns at right angles, forming a grid-like structure. These fabrics are typically more rigid and less stretchy compared to knits, offering durability and a smooth finish. Woven fabrics are often used for formal wear, trousers and shirts due to their structured nature. We do not make woven fabrics currently but can stitch articles from them by procuring them on an order basis.

• Circular Knitting: Primarily used for producing tubular fabrics, can also make open-width fabrics. Typical lead times are 1-2 weeks with a minimum order quantity of 600-700 kgs.
• Flat Knitting: Used for producing custom collars, cuffs, and other specialized articles. Typical lead times are 4-7 days with a minimum order quantity of 100-200 kgs.

Types of Knit Fabrics we Keep

At Plakads Apparel, we specialize in knitting, utilizing both flat knit and circular knitting machines to create a wide array of fabrics. Here are some of the key types of knit fabrics we produce:

• Single Jersey is a versatile and widely used fabric known for its softness and stretch. It is ideal for T-shirts and lightweight garments.
• Rib is known for its elasticity, featuring vertical stripes of knit and purl stitches. It is perfect for cuffs, collars, and form-fitting garments.
• Interlock is a double-knit fabric that is thicker and more stable than single jersey, offering a smooth surface on both sides. It is suitable for garments that require a bit more structure and warmth, such as polo shirts and winter wear.
• French Terry features looped piles on one side and a smooth surface on the other, providing a soft and absorbent fabric. It is commonly used for sweatshirts, hoodies, and casual wear.
• 2-Thread Fleece and 3-Thread Fleece are variations of fleece fabric, providing warmth and comfort. These fabrics are ideal for sweatshirts, hoodies, and other warm clothing.
• Collar & Cuff fabrics are custom-manufactured to meet specific design requirements. They are typically used in polo shirts and other garments that require tailored details.
• Textured Fabrics and Jacquard Fabrics offer unique patterns and textures, making them suitable for fashion-forward and decorative garments. These fabrics add visual interest and depth to the design of the garment.
